Passing Tests; Entertaining a Sick Little Girl

I had to take the day away from work yesterday for a couple of reasons.  Firstly, Olive was having her 2 1/2 year check.  This went really well, she just sat there, and looked at those assessing her with an eye of, "do you really want me to dignify you're meagre tasks with an answer?"  It was all very straight forward, when she basically did every exercise with a breeze, and then started correcting and talking to them with things she was being challenged by, they were rather surprised.  It all ended with them satisfied that she would pass her 3 1/2 year check today if that was what she was brought in for (they don't assess colours or numbers until then).  They told me to get on the case of finding the right school now to take advantage of where she's at, which is good encouragement.

Good signs indeed.  The other reason for being off, is Olive is not well.  She has had high temperatures at night, there has been a lot of waking up, and asking for Mummy now that she has worked out that Julia went away from a week.  All in all, it was a tough day looking after a 2yo, who didn't know what to do with herself.

As an aside, yesterday brought more good news, as the wonderful Mrs. Banks passed her driving test at the first attempt.  This will put pressure on Olive's shoulders when she's older, as she'll be next in our family in many moons time to join the elusive 'pass first time' club.  My insurance premium has gone up be £110 as a consequence, but that's money well spent for the times I'll have a designated driver in the future.

Other than that, little else has progressed, I've joined a gym at an incredibly low price of £12 a month, and I've been enjoying the nice sunny days.  If only they will last forever.

Beggars cannot be choosers.

After Olive's assessment, I took her to a park nearby to have some fun and say well done:

I also, let her go down the big slide on her own (I was a little nervous of this, and did position myself to catch her, should she fall)

Afterwards, we took a trip down my road on her Didicar.  I wanted to try and get a video of this, so here it is.  I'd turn the sound off, as it sounds like a wooden roller coaster.  It looks fast, and was pretty fast, but I was always at a speed I could come to a safe stop if need be, and not mow anybody over if they came out of their houses.  Trust me, they'd have heard us first if they did.

  1. Well done to all of you. What clever girls you have! Olive is undoubtedly as bright as a button and is sure to do wonderfully. Congrats to Julia, now the fun begins. Enjoy that licence.
